Stir-fried water spinach

What you will need.

2 tablespoon oyster sauce (sounds nasty but believe it or not, almost all Asian stir-fried dish use this)

1 teaspoon fish sauce (put it on after it is done [like when put it on low heat], or else it will smell like fish)

1 tablespoon yellow bean sauce (optional)

1/2 sugar (or more if needed)

2-3 garlic cloves (smash it by a cooking hammer and then chop it into little piece to get the taste)

350 g (12 oz) water spinach, cut into 5 cm (2 inch) lengths

red bell pepper or hot pepper (for decoration)

crush red pepper for spiciness

Here's how we do it...

Heat the oil in a big frying pan or a wok. Then stir-fry the garlic over medium heat until it is light brown. Then add the water spinach and the seasoning (oyster sauce, sugar, yellow bean and red pepper.). Stir-fry it for 2-3 minutes or until it is done. How you know it is done is by taking a bite at it and if it is very crunchy, it needs a little bit longer. I like mine to be more soft. Then serve it with hot rice :)

I made this today. This water spinach is one of my favorite food. In Thai, it is called pad-phak-bung.It is rich in iron and has planty of vitamin a which is good for eyesight. So I hope you guys enjoy this!

Ps. You can find the water spinach in a farmer market or at a local Asian market. 

Congratulation Jee&Jan

       Yesterday in Thailand and today in America, my best friends in Thailand graduated from High School. I've known them since middle school, 7th grade. Jee, was my best friend while her twin, Jan, was in another class. Jee and I, we were always together.

       One of my fond memories of us is me always visiting her house. She is like about 2 miles from where I live yet I tried to go there everyday. She is my best friend and I am so proud of her. She was the one who taught me to do my best in my school work, back when I didn't cared about school. She is like a sister to me and I love her very much.

ชีวิตที่แสนวุ่นวาย (ในรัฐมินิโซต้า)

ตั้งแต่ตอนมาเมกาใหม่ๆ อ่ะนะ ลองอ่านดูได้ค่ะ


ตอนนี้ก็มาอยู่มินิโซด้าประมาณเดือนกว่าๆ แล้วค่ะ เกิดที่นี่แล้วก็ไปเมืองไทยตอน3ขวบ แล้วก็มาที่นี่ตอนอายุ7ขวบ อยู่ประมาณ10เดือนก็กลับไปเมืองไทย เคยสัญญากับคนที่เราอยู่ด้วย (ชื่อมินดี้) ว่าเราจะมาที่นี่อีกตอนอายุ16 แต่พออายุ15ย่าง16 ก็ได้มาที่อเมริกาอีกครั้ง
             
             ก่อนมาอเมริกาประสบ (สะกดผิดอย่างไงก็ขอโทษด้วยนะคะ) ปัญหาหลายอย่างจนเกือบท้อ เพราะ โดนเพื่อนหักหลัง เกือบโดนหาเรื่องทั้งๆ ที่เราไม่ได้ผิดแต่ก็ดูเหมือนเราเป็นคนผิด โทรศัพท์หาย กระเป๋าตังค์หาย และอีกหลายอย่าง จนคิดว่า ชีวิตนี้ ไม่มีค่าอะไร
             
              แต่พอมาที่นี่ก็รู้สึกว่าชีวิตดีขึ้น (ไม่ใช่ว่าไม่รักเมืองไทยนะคะ แต่มีเหตุผลส่วนตัว) ที่นี่ก็ดีนะคะ ญาติๆ ของเราก็อยากไปเมืองไทย เพราะม่าเคยเล่าให้ฟังว่า ที่ไทยน่ะ สวยแค่ไหน คนน่ารักแค่ไหน และอีกเยอะแยะ แต่ที่พวกเขาประทับใจก็คงเป็นเรื่องที่เราเคราพธงชาติตอน6โมงอ่ะค่ะ จำได้ว่า วันนั้นกำลังซื้อของอยู่ พอเพลงชาติดังขี้น ทุกคนก็หยุดและยืนตรง ครูที่อยู่ที่นี่ได้ฟังปุ๊ป ถึงกับน้ำตาไหลเลย บอกว่า ประทับใจมากๆ ที่คนไทยรักชาติ
             เอาล่ะค่ะ เข้าเรื่องดีกว่า ที่ๆ ม่ามาอยู่นี่คือ รัฐมินิโซด้าค่ะ เป็นรัฐที่หนาวที่สุดในอเมริกา ผู้คนจากรัฐต่างๆ จะมา Ice Fishing (ตกปลาโดยเจาะน้ำแข็งเป็นรูใหญ่ๆ น่ะค่ะ) ในช่วงหน้าหนาว บ้านที่ม่ามาอยู่เป็นบ้านป้าค่ะ เป็นบ้านชั้นเดียว ข้างให้มีห้องนอน4ห้อง ห้องน้ำ3 ห้องครัว1 ห้องนั่งเล่น2 อ่อ ลืมบอกไป ที่อเมริกา บ้านชั้นเดียวส่วนมากจะมีห้องใต้ดิน ตอนแรกที่มาอ่ะ มันน่ากลัวมากเลย เพราะไฟไม่ได้เปิด แล้วก็ได้ยินเหมือนคนเดิน (ข้างล่างเป็นห้องนอนของพี่ชื่อ แพทดี้ เขาอยู่กับสามีเขา) แต่พอลงไปก็ไม่มีอะไร อากาศแค่หนาวๆ หน่อย ที่เขานิยมสร้างห้องใต้ดินเพราะเผื่อเทนาโดรมาอ่ะคะ เมื่อวานก็มีอ่ะ ตกใจหมดเลย ดีนะที่มันหยุดเร้ว บรื่อ
               โรงเรียนยังไม่เปิดค่ะ ส่วนมากจะเปิดเดือนกันยายน บ้างรัฐก็เปิดเดือนตุลา ม่าหยุดยาวเลย แหะๆ รัฐนี่ไม่นิยม 7-11 ค่ะ จะมี Target ที่คนชอบไป ในนั้นก็เหมือนห้างเล็กๆ อ่ะค่ะ แต่ไม่มีโรงหนังหรือคาราโอเกะ มีแค่เสื้อผ้า ของใช้ต่างๆ เกม เพลง หนังอ่ะคะ (เคยหลงด้วยแหละ) นอกนั้นก็จะไปเมซี่กัน (ม่าชอบไปค่ะ ไปกับป้า) ที่นี่เสื้อผ้าแพงมากเลย (เราไปซื้อของแบรนเนมอ่ะค่ะ แหะๆ) เสื้อยืดธรรมดาราคาประมาณ $20กว่าๆ (อันนี้ราคาไทยประมาณ700นะ ถ้าม่าคิดถูกอ่ะ อันนี้เป็นราคาของเสื้อนะคะ กางเกงก็แพงกว่านี้อีก) แต่พี่ม่าคนหนึ่งชื่อ พี่หมี เขาซื้อกางเกงที่หนึ่งราคา$200 ขึ้นไป (ราคาไทยประมาณ7000 อ๊อก =_= แพงขนาดนี้ ฆ่ากันเลยดีกว่า) 
               เพลงของที่นี่มันไม่ค่อยหนุกอ่ะค่ะ เน้นจังหวะบีทมากกว่า ส่วนเนื้อหาจะเป็นอะไรก็ไม่รู้ (คำหยาบๆ ที่เอาไว้เรียกเพลงพวกนี้คือ Crap แค่บอกไว้นะคะ ไม่ได้ให้เอาไปใช้ เพราะมันแปลว่า อึนั้นเอง ^o^) ชอบเพลงไทยมากกว่านะ หนุกหนานดี พี่หมีก็ชอบฟังคลื่นวิทยุเพลงไทย (พี่คนนี้ ชอบพาไปเลื้ยงข้าว เลื้ยงหนัง คือพี่เขาทำงานเสริบอาหารอ่ะ แล้วตอนแครชมานะ ก็ได้ถ่ายรูปกะวงแครชด้วย >_<qq) หนังที่นี่ก็หนุกดีนะคะ มีช่องหนึ่งชื่อ Disney Cannel อ่ะค่ะ เป็นช่องที่เด็กชอบดู แต่เหลือเชื่อ วัยรุ่นก็ดู คุณยายม่ายังดูเลย คิดดู
               ลืมบอกไป บ้านที่ม่าอยู่อ่ะ มันอยู่ค่อนข้างไกลเมืองหน่อย คือไม่ได้อยู่ใน Down Townอ่ะ แต่ก็ดีแล้ว ที่นี่สงบดี ถึงไม่ได้อยู่ในเมืองก็ไม่ใช่ว่าจะบ้านนอกนะ มีหลายๆ อย่างเยอะเลย ส่วนมากคนจะไปในเมืองเพื่อไปทำงาน ไปโรงเรียนอะไรงี้มากกว่าอ่ะ 
                ลุงบอกว่าที่นี่ตอนหน้าหนาวอ่ะ หนาวมากๆ (ต่ำกว่า-40องศาเลย) พ่อม่าก็เคยบอกว่า ถ้าโยนน้ำร้อนขึ้นไปในอากาศนะ พอตกลงมาอ่ะ จะเป็นน้ำแข็ง O_o โอ้ว จอร์ช อยากลองเหมือนกันเนอะ หิมะก็จะสูงประมาณเอวเลยอ่ะ เรียกว่าไม่อยากออกจากบ้าน แต่ก็แปลกเนอะ อากาศร้อนๆ ให้ปิดเทอมพอหนาวๆ ก็ให้ไปเรียน ไม่สงสารนักเรียนบ้างเหรอไง TT^TT
                ถ้าอยากทานอาหารไทยนะ อย่าไปร้านอาหารเลย (ถ้าคุณทำอาหารเป็นน่ะนะ ถ้าไม่เป็นก็ไปเหอะ เสี่ยงต่อไฟไหม้บ้าน) ราคาก๋วยเตี่ยวชามหนึ่งที่ไทย ประมาณ 30-45ใช่ม่ะ ที่นี่ $7-10 ดูเหมือนตัวเลขน้อยๆ ใช่ม่ะ แค่7บาท10บาทเอง เปล่าเลย ราคา 245-350 โอ้ว แนะนำสำหรับพวกที่ทำอาหารเป็นนะ ไปซื้อมาทำดีกว่า จะมีตลาดหนึ่งชื่อ Farmer Market ตลาดชาวนาค่ะ ที่นี่จะมีอะไรขายเยอะเลย ไม่ว่าจะ ผักบุ้ง อะไรอ่ะเยอะ ถูกด้วย มีอีกหลายอย่างอีกด้วย เขาจะมาขายกันทุกวันอาทิตย์ เปิดตั้งแต่6โมงเช้าถึงบ่าย2อ่ะ 
                เง้อ เขียนมาเยอะล่ะ ยังไงถ้ามีอะไรจะถามหรือจะชม (ว่าเราสวย อิอิ) ก็เม้นมาได้นะคะ 
                ยังไงก็ไปก่อนนะคะ แล้ววันหลังจะมาเล่าเรื่องราวต่างๆ ให้ฟังอีก
                 

My sunshine

      Today started out badly, I guess. I woke up at 8:40 am, trying to get ready for tutor in the morning. I skipped my chore, which is putting dishes where they belong, and ran to school. Well, the weather wasn't so welcome this morning and I can almost feel my daisies complaining already. Anyways, got to school and it turns out there's no tutor in the morning on Monday. How nice. 

      School lunch was good though. Got to eat with Leah and have a chitchat with her. Then physic started and it was cold. The room was very very cold. Then I cried a little because I felt stressed out - or maybe I just needed some chocolate. Senior writing was also kind of stressful. I'm doing this thesis about marriage and divorce. Christi helped me with my papers and I got to hold her hand when we're in chapel. 

      Wow, the day actually passed so fast (no, I'm just kidding - I felt like the time has slowed down). Had some people over, eat dinner (turkey, yum!) and now I'm sitting on the stairs reflecting on my day. 

      God is so graceful. Even though it was cold; we still have food to eat, have warm house to look forward to and have friends and families who are always there for us. I'm thankful for the friends that God had put in my life to hold me accountable (thanks, guys). I'm thankful for Jen, Josh and Ernie for making me smile every time I come home. I'm thankful for the families and friends in Thailand, I miss you guys.

      So even though I have a very rough day, I'm still thankful of God's grace He gives me the air I breath and give me life each day. He is always loving, we just need to see it. 

      God, you add sunshine to my gloomy day. Thank you for everything.

A weekend with Christi

      Hey sweet cakes? How are you doing? Haven't updated my blog in like a week? Wasn't the weather awesome? Ah, the sunshine and the fresh smell of Spring! 

      This weekend Christi came over for a sleepover, which we haven't for a long time. It was great! We stayed up late and watch some movies; discussing Bella's wedding dress (Twilight saga) and having fun making some green monster (some fruit blended up with spinach, but you can't taste it though). It was fun and we had a good time cooking and catching up :)

      Thank you God for putting Christi into my life, she is a blessing to me.

 Christi made some tariyaki chicken. It was pretty good!

 Since Christi made the chicken, I decided to make some eggs. It goes well together. Get it? Eggs and chicken? Yes, I know you don't get it, I'm just being Asian :)

 The TV was kindda far away so we moved the sofa and watch some movies. It felt like we're in a mini theater. We watch Breaking Dawn (Twilight, Bella, Edward, Jacobs - you know?) and this one movie called dream house. It was fun and we kept eating and talking during the movie. HAHA.

 I made some fried rice with things I found in the kitchen. So there's hot-dogs, eggs, spinach, lemon grass and some soy sause.  

 Christi likes peppers on her food. One new thing I learn from her.

 Ernie decided to join up for breakfast with this "I melt hearts" shirt.

 We went on a walk together.

If babies can talk, they would say...

His name is Earnest Joshua Jacobs. He is Jen and Josh's son. He is 7 months old now and he is adorable. He likes to smile a lot and make high pitch noise. He likes to eat sweet potatoes and avocado. He get excited when he see me in the morning and smiles. I just wanna say...Ernie! I love you!

Early Spring fashion 2012

      Ah, finally. Can you feel that 80 degrees weather outside? Isn't that awesome? I cannot wait for Spring to start. Yes! No more winter coat (well, at lease for a couple days, but thats good enough, right?).

     Here are some pictures from the websites of the fashion this Spring. ^_^

Cute hair style for hot days. So chic! I used to hate putting my hair up but now I like it. It is fun to dress up your hair and try different hair styles.

Wearing lace gives that extra touch of feminine. It is so cute and when I wear it, I feel happy. Also, the collar she is wearing on her neck acts as a necklace. It is made out of a shirt with collar, so you cut it and put some pearls on it (or buttons, shinny stuff - anything!) and viola! Your one of a kind necklace!  

I LOVE this girl's dress! It has a hint of fairy tale, like a doll. Also the season's style this year is mint green. It has become one of my favorite colors. I wear a mint green nail polish on my toes and every time I look at them I can't help but think "only few more weeks and Spring will come."

Not only bright neon colors are in style right now, but also neutral such as tan are in style too. Of course, I'm sure neon colors would be fun too like bright pink or orange!

The hair piece has become very popular. There's many YouTube video on how to make them by yourself. It is easy and you can even wear it to school or work! 

That fish braid is awesome and I love her makeup. This Spring makeup colors is pink and purple, which is very cute. Try wearing it one tone (only one color), so it won't be as messy and match it with rosy cheeks and nude lip-gloss (either nude or go bright colors such as red and orange).

Sometimes simple is just right. Fashion can be fun to try but don't let that stopping you from wearing what you like! 

As I have said, neon and bright colors is awesome. I really like this dress shirt. She wore neutral and black but add a pop of color with pink! Very cute!

I cannot wait to wear my spring clothes! I have my room all clean now so it would be easier to do makeup and dress up. I will start doing more blogging soon.

Trip to Dominican Republic

      About 3 weeks ago, I had a chance to go on a mission trip to Dominican Republic with my Senior class. It was an amazing experience, you know, what that we call "God is opening our eyes". I really am touched by their hospitality and how blessed we are to get to know them! Leah (one of my classmates and best friend) and I stayed with a host family who took us in. Us, strangers to them yet I can't help but feel like that too is my home. They let us sleep in a big room with air conditioner and a bathroom inside. It was so awesome! The weather was hot yet we have air conditioner, it is what one can ever ask for (if you're in a place where its cold and went somewhere that is very very HOT, you'll know what I'm talking about). They give us food and make sure we have a lot of jugos (Spanish word for juice). The jugo they have is so delicious!! 

      Throughout the week, we did some ministry and visiting different parts of Santo Domingo (the biggest city in Dominican Rebublic, I believe). We visit beta (about 1-4 hours from the city) and visit some schools. One that stuck to me is an orphanage. Christi and I met this girl name Idiana (I think that's how it spelled) whom live there for 7 years. She is 11 years old, so that means she was 4 years old when she came to the orphanage. She spoke English very well and she showed us where she lived. She lived with other boys and girls in a yellow house, 4 people in one room. I asked her what she want to be when she grow up and she said "an actress". She is very cool and I admire her very much. But I just can't help but think that she is very strong. She's been through a lot yet she can still smile. Best of all, she loves God and gives her heart to him.

      I am glad that we went to Dominican Republic. I want to take this time to thank you everyone that made it possible. Can you believe it? We have like 2 months to get all the money but somehow, God made it possible. Thank you God for your grace and blessing. Thank you for opening our eyes!

 We went on a small plane from Minneapolis to Newark, New Jersey. Then we took a bigger plane to Santo Dimingo

 Leah and I gets to sit next to each other so we decided to take some pictures. 

 Merhawi (he's in my class) said he loves Dominican Republic before he even set his foot on it! So yeah, it was so green and the sun setting is very beautiful. Already, we could feel the warmness that we looked forward to!

 He spoke English very little but he tried his best. He has awesome jokes too.

 Christi and I ate some rice and meat. The little soup thinigie for rice and the reason that our rice is different is because her rice is brown rice and mine is white rice. 

 The chicken is seasoned with, what I think it is, curry. It has that spicy and creamy taste.

 I saw the apartment and it was cool. The ones with the flower pots reminds me that one day, I would like to have my own garden.

 A little girl at Church likes my camera. She often draw on it (there's a drawing program) and tries to talk to me in Spanish, in which I could only say si and bien.

 We went to visit the beta and played with the kids. In here, Gio is trying to dance something with the kids. 

 The kids were very shy at first but it only took them some times to open up to us.

 We prayed for them and have a little chitchat.

 When we went back to the Church in the village, they had a banquet for us. Everything was very nice and it was one of the best meal we had all week.

 A boy in an orphanage has this beautiful eyes so I decided to take a pic. 

 Marie and her son were very nice to us. They open their home and took us in. An example of the kindness? I get hungry, all the time. And every night after dinner at the Church, I still get hungry and when we got home, she gave us some snacks and jugos. She is so sweet to us. She would wake us up early in the morning and when we come downstairs, there would be some breakfast for us. And when we got done with the ministry, she would come pick us up. She was so very nice and we felt so blessed.

 A week passed so fast! I wish I could stay longer! Good bye Dominican Republic! I will miss you!

And we are back in Minnesota again. Ah, home sweet home.
